The Santa Ana River Trail AKA SART is the longest epic ride in southern California, up to 50 miles long. You can choose to ride different sections depending on the distance that you are planning to do. This is not a DH trail but a nice and flowy all mountain trail. There is a fair amount of exposure and of climbing. For experienced riders and above.
You can start from Wild Horse, 8 miles long. It’s the highest starting point. It connects to the SART at Heart bar, that section was closed for a while because of the fire. It’s 6 miles up to South Fork. From there starts the classic upper SART, 13 miles to the post office.
At the post office you can have a well deserved lunch at The Oaks restaurant. After refueling you can go down the lower SART 7 miles all the way to Highway 38. This is the most technical section of the trail. Or connect to Morton Peak on your way down to make it a real epic ride all the way down to Hangar 24. From South Fork you would have done 35 miles and 50 from Wild Horse.
Or take the easy way, Loch Leven, 5 miles of just downhill. Good way down when it’s hot.
Because of the lack of cell phone service, we will have to meet at the Hangar 24 to load the bikes and them move your car to where you are planning to finish the ride.
